What is a Mezuzah?
A Mezuzah is a parchment scroll that has been handwritten by a professional scribe. It contains two sections of the Torah that discuss the Jewish faith. Every Mezuzah, no matter how simple or elaborate the exterior casing may be, contains the exact same inscription, the Shema Yisrael: “Hear o’ Israel, the L-rd Our G-d, the L-rd is One.”
It is traditionally attached to the doorposts of a Jewish home.
How do I get one?
Tri-Co Students: Submit this form, along with a $25 deposit. The deposit will be refunded when you return the Mezuzah at the end of the year. Rabbi Eli or Blumie will be happy to help you hang the Mezuzah properly!
Swarthmore Mezuzah Initiative
Swarthmore Students can participate in the special Swarthmore Mezuzah Initiative and receive a Mezuzah free of charge as a gift from an anonymous alum. All you need to do is fill out the form below and check off the “Swarthmore Initiative” field and agree to take a photo of the affixing of your mezuzah.
Note:
We believe that financial difficulty should never stand in the way of doing a Mitzvah. If for whatever reason the deposit poses a difficulty for you, please contact Rabbi Eli.
What if I want to buy a Mezuzah?
That’s great! We will be happy to sell you a Mezuzah for $32, or we can direct you to a local store that has a broad selection of ‘kosher’ Mezuzahs and cases.
The fine print.
This offer is for Haverford, Swarthmore, and Bryn Mawr College students only. If you live in campus housing, check with your RA about the best way to hang the Mezuzah.
NOTE: Due to COVID there’s a Mezuzah shortage in the US. We will do all we can to provide the Mezuzah in a timely manner.
(Double sided tape is usually the best option.) Please treat the Mezuzah with respect.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]
