Stories That Live: Betty Sved
A few weeks ago I had the incredible opportunity to see Holocaust survivor Betty Sved speak at the tri-co Chabad. I wanted to go because I know that very soon, we will no longer be able to hear the stories of survival from the survivors themselves, and it will be up to us, the next generation of Jews, to carry on their legacies. As I was hearing Betty speak I was blown away by not only the bravery she showed by surviving, but also the courage she showed by coming and telling her story. She spoke about her instinct for survival and how she stayed true to her belief in God while in the concentration camps. When she talked about these things, I realized that if she can go through everything that she went through and still believe in God and her Jewish values, must never lose site of my own Jewish values. She inspired me to become more involved in my own Jewish community.
